Broadway stars Sutton Foster, Raul Esparza, Marin Mazzie, Cheyenne Jackson, Montego Glover, Ana Gasteyer and Aaron Tveit will be among the stars performing at this year's annual MCC Theater gala, Miscast 2010. Comedian and writer Mo Rocca, best known for his appearances on The Daily Show and NPR, will host the event, which takes the stage at the Hammerstein Ballroom on March 1.
Billed as "a theatrical evening so wrong it has to be right," Miscast 2010 features Broadway stars performing songs from roles in which they would never be cast. The 2010 gala honors recent Golden Globe winner, MCC alum and Board of Directors member Julianna Margulies (TV's The Good Wife), with actors Josh Charles (Dead Poets Society, The Receptionist) and Chris Noth (Sex and the City, Farragut North) serving as honorary chairs. Funds from Miscast benefit MCC Theater, as well as support the group's Youth Company and in-school partnerships operating in New York City public high schools. Funds also go toward literary development work with emerging playwrights.
In a first for Miscast, the event will also feature unannounced special surprise guests in addition to Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek), Esparza (Company, Speed-the-Plow), Mazzie (Kiss Me, Kate; Ragtime), Jackson (Finian's Rainbow, NBC's 30 Rock), Glover (Memphis, The Color Purple), Gasteyer (Wicked, The Royal Family) and Tveit (Next to Normal, Wicked).
MCC's first production of the 2010 season, The Pride starring Hugh Dancy, Adam James, Andrea Riseborough and Ben Whishaw, begins previews on January 27.
